Penicillium griseofulvum was first described morphologically by Dierckx in 1901 and recognized as a distinct species within the genus Penicillium. The morphological identification of Penicillium griseofulvum is comparatively simple as it is one of the few interior Penicillium species to form tertiary and quarterverticillate spore carriers. That means, from one main axis branch up to three lateral axes, which end in terminal metulae and phialides.

Molecular studies resulted in a new taxonomic classification of Purpureocillium lilacinum into a separate genus (Luangsa-ard et al. 2011). In older literature, this mold is occasionally still described as Paecilomyces lilacinum or also Penicillium lilacinum (Domsch et al. 2007 Sec. Ed.).

We dedicate today to one of the most precious resources on our planet: water. Every year, World Water Day is held on March 22 to draw attention to the importance of clean water. In order to do justice to the great importance of water, the GBA Group now has its own Water Business Unit, which deals with the topic of water throughout Germany and across all central laboratories.

Molds often grow covertly and as a result of prolonged elevated moisture levels in the affected material. In order to trace the exact cause of mold damage, the molds present must be determined at the species and genus level. This requires a material suspension and examination of the culturable molds.
