Minimally invasive sampling of surfaces

Molds can be a visual, olfactory but also hygienic problem. Especially for sensitive persons (e.g. allergic persons), extensive and exposed mold damage can lead to allergic reactions or sensitizing effects. Molds can indicate increased humidity and can occur on many different materials (e.g. wallpaper, plasterboard walls, wooden beams, etc.).

In surface testing, GBA Group uses the few morphological characteristics to identify genera to pinpoint the possible cause of mold. Adhesive samples are primarily used to assess whether a surface is infested (spores, spore carriers and mycelium) or whether it is contaminated (only spores due to dust deposits or other).

Color changes on surfaces in the course of increased humidity can be first signs of mold infestation. For a final analysis, a 5 x 2 cm crystal-clear adhesive tape pressed firmly onto the surface to be examined is sufficient. Due to this minimally invasive sampling, there is no damage to the material, which is of utmost importance, for example, in the restoration of works of art.

The analysis usually takes 1 - 2 working days, including a written report.
