New maximum levels for 3-MCPD
New maximum levels for the sum of 3-MCPD and 3-MCPD fatty acid esters and glycidyl fatty acid esters in certain foods are expected to apply from 1 January 2021. 3-monochloropropanediol (3-MCPD), 2-monochloropropanediol (2-MCPD) and their fatty acid esters as well as glycidyl fatty acid esters are process contaminants which can be formed from natural ingredients during the production and processing of food, such as (high-fat) baked goods, baby food and edible fats and oils.
