Analysis of Food Contact Materials (FCM)
As a life science company, supporting producers in ensuring the quality of their products is our top priority. Among other things, we advise our customers on the creation of suitable monitoring plans. These should always be risk-based and tailored to the respective product group and the origin of the product.
However, in addition to testing the actual product, the conformity of the corresponding packaging - the so-called food contact materials - must also be clarified. As the name suggests, this includes everything that comes into direct contact with the product. These can be made of various materials such as glass, paper, plastics or a combination of these.
These materials can pose a potential hazard or undesirable substances can migrate from the contact material into the food. These substances which could be added during the production process (IAS) or not intentionally added (NIAS) could also lead to organoleptic non-conformities of the product.
Analysing food contact materials should therefore always be an integral part of the company's internal control plan.
The analysis of FCM is mandatory for certain materials such as plastic (according to EU Regulation 10/2011) and is complemented with a so-called Declaration of Compliance (DoC). Potentially the Declaration of Compliance is also required for submission to customers or supervisory authorities. Let us advise you on your obligations and options!
We will be happy to help you with the targeted integration of the European FCM requirements into your monitoring. Contact us at: service@gba-group.de
