The uninvited guest in the cattle barn: bluetongue

Bluetongue

Bluetongue is a harmful disease. Perhaps less for the cattle themselves now, but certainly for export and trade. Therefore, a PCR test is often a prerequisite for exporting animals to other countries. With that, Lavetan is happy to help you.

Prevent the spread

On the one hand, you can keep your animals away from the big spreaders - the so-called midges - this can be done with insect control or stalling animals earlier. On the other hand, regular testing for bluetongue also helps against the spread of the disease. Lavetan offers the PCR antigen test for this purpose. The PCR test allows us to detect the virus through single or pooled blood samples.

What is bluetongue?

Bluetongue was always considered a tropical disease, but has been found in the Benelux countries for years. It is spread by blood-sucking insects, parasites, and contaminated hypodermic needles. Both cattle and sheep can get infected. Cattle are a perfect place for the virus to hibernate; they don't get seriously sick from it.
